Extracuricular
Extracurricular opportunities at Burris Laboratory School are an extension of the learning that happens every day in classrooms. Through athletics, clubs, and the performing arts, students explore interests, develop leadership, collaborate with peers, and build confidence in authentic settings. These experiences encourage students to take risks, commit to shared goals, and grow as individuals and community members.
Whether students are competing, creating, performing, or serving, extracurricular participation at Burris supports the development of well-rounded learners and reinforces the school’s commitment to student agency, connection, and growth beyond the school day.

Athletics
Athletics at Burris Laboratory School are grounded in the belief that students are students first and athletes second. Participation in sports is an extension of the school day and reflects the same expectations for character, responsibility, and commitment that guide learning in the classroom.
Student-athletes are expected to demonstrate positive citizenship by meeting academic standards, attending classes regularly, and contributing to a respectful school environment. Through this shared commitment, Burris athletics foster character, integrity, teamwork, and leadership while supporting students’ growth as learners and community members.

Clubs
Clubs at Burris Laboratory School are designed to reflect the interests, passions, and creativity of the school community. Offerings evolve from year to year as students and faculty explore new ideas, pursue shared interests, and respond to emerging opportunities. This flexible approach ensures that clubs remain relevant and student-centered.
Students are encouraged to take an active role in shaping the club experience at Burris. Students may propose and establish new clubs, creating spaces for collaboration, leadership, and connection beyond the classroom. Through clubs, students build community, explore interests, and develop skills that extend learning in meaningful ways.

Performing Arts
The performing arts are a vibrant and celebrated part of life at Burris Laboratory School. Award-winning programs in choir, show choir, band, orchestra, and jazz band give students meaningful opportunities to build artistic skill, discipline, and confidence through performance, with more than half of Burris secondary students participating in at least one ensemble.
Music education is foundational to the Burris experience, beginning with general music for all K–6 students and early instrumental instruction that expands from first-grade strings to fourth-grade band. Burris theatre is offered through a partnership with Ball State University, bringing Ball State theatre students together with Burris students each fall and spring to produce a full theatrical performance.
