The Burris Theatre Department Presents...

March 19, 2021

Join us for an amazing production of Alice Austen’s new play, Girls in the Boat. Celebrate Women’s History Month with us as we follow the story of the first ever US women’s Olympic rowing team. This production follows through history as the women fight for the right to compete as the men have for decades before them. Along the way each member of the team faces bias and fights to overcome the perception that they are weaker because of their gender. It is an uplifting story about trials and triumphs as we follow the team all the way to present day. The theatre for young audience’s play is part of an ongoing collaboration between the Theatre Education program in Ball State University’s Department of Theatre and Dance and Burris Lab School & Indiana Academy.

There are three opportunities to check out this fun piece.

  • On Thursday, March 25, at 7:00 pm, we will be hosting a virtual sharing of the play.
  • On Friday, March 26 and Saturday, March 27, at 7:00 pm, we will be hosting a physically distanced, in-person performance in the Burris Auditorium.  The auditorium will open at 6:30 pm and there will be no intermission.  Masks will be required and guests will be spaced out by family groupings so that all feel safe and welcome.

For more information on tickets, and the weekend of sharing, please head to the Burris Laboratory School website (https://burrislab.bsu.edu/) and click on “Click here to purchase Burris Athletics tickets”, then “Theatre Productions”.  Tickets are $5 per person.
