Burris - Okazaki Trip 2019

October 17, 2019

Students from the Burris 5th and 6th grade classes left for Okazaki, Japan, on Thursday, to visit our sister school: Okazaki Primary School. The students left Thursday, Oct. 17, and will not be returning until Oct. 26. Other than visiting with our friends at our sister school, Burris students will be visiting Okazaki Castle, Legoland Japan, and the Atsuta Shrine in Nagoya, among other activities.

Okazaki is in the coastal plains of the Aichi Prefecture, and lays about 250 miles southwest of Tokyo. It has a population of over 380,000 (for comparison, Muncie has a population of just under 70,000). Check back soon to see pictures and highlights from the trip!

Art teacher Mrs. Phelps created two postcards that our students will be gifting to our friends in Okazaki.

Special thanks to Debbie’s Handmade Soaps of Downtown Muncie for providing us with soaps to include in the gifts presented to the Japanese committee members, as well as Albanese Candies for providing some of their World’s Best Gummies, and Tony Yakos and Ben Harber for purchasing sweatshirts.
